My nutrition professor says that sugar is worse than cholesterol and I don't want the rest of the people in my class to take that on blind faith. Reply Lena Bean says: September 14, 2016 at 12:44 pm I'm taking nutrition in college right now. Sadly, my professor – an RD- just repeats all the mainstream crap. " As long as it's in moderation, it's fine!". I see a sea of nodding heads. Many of the students are also clearly unhealthy. It's very disappointing, especially when I'm criticized for questioning why she thinks dairy is healthy. Ugh. Reply Old Earthling Carl says: September 14, 2016 at 12:47 pm I always love the "one cherry" line, great work Dr Greger 🙂 Reply The DJ says: September 14, 2016 at 12:56 pm Thanks for the video's Doc. The amount of knowledge gained from you and the people who do the research is phenomenal. Reply Rose V. says: September 14, 2016 at 1:10 pm My son started seeing a new dr who is known for treating diabetes aggressively 3 months ago. She put him on 5 different drugs: pioglitazone 15, atorvistatin 10, ramipril 10, fenofibrate 145, tradjenta 5. He followed the Dr's crappie, modified SAD diet and lost a massive amout of weight-55# in like 2 months. Fasting glucose was 150 a month ago. Not good enough dr said, so he reaches for some over the counter help. He winds up having a reaction to that a week later and stops. That was a week ago. He was sent home from work last Friday because he was feeling numbness a long his left side. Went directly to hospitaland tested. Couldnt find anything and sent home. He blacked out 2 days ago and hit 2 parked cars. Went to another hospital and tested. My beautiful baby is 37 and weighs 200# and apparently has had multiple strokes. They cant figure out why!! I just want to scream. A couple of screaming notes: 1. Cardiologist finds plaque and says thats nothing that cant be handled with statins. 2. the cute, little dietician comes in to ask MY SON what he wants for dinner and breakfast where he chooses chicken breast and mashed potatoes and gravy and french toast for breakfast (to which my daughter in law asks, how about an egg). No one is paying attention to the real medicine.Seeing your video this morning is a godsend!! I have some work cut out for me. The odds are stacked against me, however. I feel like its me against the world. I need help, or I'm going to lose. Reply The Vegan Ape says: September 14, 2016 at 1:13 pm Love love love the video! Sharing it on my facebook, hopefully it will wake some people up?It's so frustrating trying to help people who don't want to hear information that contradicts their existing lifestyle. Never mind that this lifestyle led to disease in many cases! Thanks for your work Dr Gregor, you're very much appreciated by so many of us. It probably will notwork. Surely, if you never have intercourse, your chance of getting STD's will be almost 0, but people will continue to do it even if they know intercourse spreads STD's. Humans have been using cigarettes only for a few hundred years, and there has been no natural selection advantage in smoking. So, quitting smoking is relatively easy. But humans have been eating animals for millions of years and it had been advantageous during our course of evolution. It is our natural instinct to prefer animal foods than plants. The majority of people will not stop eating animal products completely, just like the majority of people will not choose abstinence to prevent STD's. The only practical approach will be developing technologies. Making something tastes exactly like animal foods but does not have negative health effects, or finding ways to cure the harmful effects of animal foods. Stressing constantly about what to eat is actually worse than eating junk (I don't recommend eating junk). And most importantly … if you don't already know what to eat, then you probably never will. Reply Semi Veg says: September 14, 2016 at 5:26 pm Even if doctors recommended plant-based diets to all their patients, almost no one would follow it because people are stubborn. They don't WANT to change their eating habits. They like eating meat and cheese and junk. People won't change because they think "it'll never happen to me" or the ever-popular "you gotta die of something!" It's not up to doctors to change people's lives, it's up to the patients to take responsibility for their health. I think people know by now that junk food is bad for them. If they don't care enough about their health to change their diet, then it's their own fault. Reply Clone42 says: September 14, 2016 at 11:36 pm Your voice is fine for narration, but your mannerisms and pattern of speech (especially when I watch some older videos of you giving lectures) makes me wonder whether you think as much about what you put up your nose as you do what you put in your mouth… These dramatic camera pans and things are ridiculous as well. Referring people to real science, as you've done traditionally on this channel, is how to reach them, not with melodrama. Reply Greg Raper says: September 14, 2016 at 11:40 pm Bravo!! Great analogy…. Reply ktrez2000 says: September 14, 2016 at 11:45 pm I have a friend, age 65, who is on that slippery slope into greater and greater obesity, but he will not change his diet, even though he knows all about diet, and veganism, he will not change. Most people have the mentality of small children, that will simply act like there is nothing they can do to help themselves and become angry if anyone suggest they change. Reply Alistaire Mordyn says: September 14, 2016 at 11:49 pm I like the new video format, Dr. Greger! Reply Bourne Accident says: September 15, 2016 at 12:37 am "Consumption of animal foods and processed foods "may" cause…" The word "may" is not conclusive. If Williams doesn't like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy… bully for him, however these are all nutritionally dense foods and do not cause premature death or ill health. Never have…don't…and never will. That is simply false. This video is just more vegan bullshit and bullshit clearly in this case, can be detrimental to your health. Reply Chris says: September 15, 2016 at 12:56 am It's not only a plant based diet. In order to reverse heart disease, you have to eat low fat as well. Reply TKMP1964 says: September 15, 2016 at 1:24 am I began a plant based diet only 3 weeks ago, but went to my doctor. I gave the list of Dr. Greger's daily dozen. I explained the diet, mentioned it being plant based. The doctor, a lipidologist, had never heard of any of this. All she did was discuss medicines. How do we educate the doctors? A specialist in lipids should understand diet. That 'I know someone who smoked and lived til they were 90.' And other things like this. That excuses them to eat like crap apparently. They just don't care at all. They don't even care about dying younger because they couldn't live without a certain food. It's not worth it apparently. How many vegetarians are there who lived over 100 years? Here in Russia anyone who doesn't drink alcohol and doesn't smoke lives over 90 years easily. And we eat everything. Reply Nerds and Nutrition says: September 15, 2016 at 6:01 pm I just lost a cousin to colon cancer–he was 58 years old. When my grandmother asked me why I don't eat meat anymore at the luncheon after my cousin's funeral, I told her that it's not good for us. While I told her how meat consumption leads to atherosclerosis, diabetes, and other major conditions that are killing us, my grandmother simply rolled her eyes. This information needs to spread like wildfire, and fighting the indoctrination of decades of poor nutrition advice will be a lifelong journey for many of us. As a doctor myself, it is my duty to teach my patients how plant based diet is the best for their health and as such, That is how I practice. I don’t give a damn if they listen because I’m not their daddy. I did my job properly, and if they don’t eat healthier then I prescribe medicine as needed. If they take it, they take it. If they don’t, again, I did my job properly and I don’t give a damn. They live freely and they die freely. Everyone is happy. Less stupid ass humans to make other animals and plants go extinct. The world is better off with less of those dumb ass resource draining humans with poor self control. I and other smart people live longer because we live the healthy and more sustainable way.
